The 1st International Tourism Film Festival (ITFFM) in Maldives concluded at the beautiful The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi Maldives last week. For 3 days festival screened amazing clips from across the globe with breathtaking content related to tourism and nature. Some very creative works were witnessed by the attendees. The grand finale was on the 12th of July with the screening of the top nominees, a grand dinner and awarding the winners.

Celebrity figures included Ms. Yang Zi (Actress from China), Ms. Lizzie Cundy (British TV/radio presenter, showbiz, fashion & beauty advisor and model from UK), Ms. Mina Wattan Ramadhan Raheem (Socialite, social media influencer and a travel blogger from Middle East), Mr. Raul Richter (Actor, presenter and vDSC_2790oice actor) from Germany with his fiancé  Ms. Valentina Pahde (Actress), Mr. Jumayyil (Maldivian Actor), Ms. Aishath Rishmy Rameez (Maldivian Actress) and Mr. Abdul Fathaah Abdul Gayoom (Maldivian Film Director) together with some amazing journalists from international media. The presence
of CCTV6, a top TV channel from China, well known tourism journalists from France, Italy, Middle East and Russia, and of course the local media of Maldives which included Public Service Media, Sun Media and Hotelier Maldives, have covered the 3 day event at Iru Fushi and made great news!

Among the prizes that were awarded for the winners; included 5 nights stay at the various properties of Sun Siyam Resorts for 2 adults on Full Board with return transfers.

‘Why I deserve the free holiday in Maldives’ winner:

Mr. Skero from Montenegro for his video ‘Don’t let this be our destiny’. This category was open for entry on social media and received strong response. The winner received a fully paid 5 night stay at The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi Maldives, on all inclusive for two people including seaplane transfers and international flight, which is valued at USD 20,000.DSC_2920

The event was made a huge success from contribution and sponsorship from major stakeholders in the industry. Noteworthy are Mega Maldives and Qatar Airways for their generous offers on the international flight tickets, Spa by Thalgo for contribution on amazing giveaways, TMA providing internal Sea Plane transfers and the local media for the live coverage, airtime and news coverage.

With the success of the 1st International Tourism Film Festival, the plan is to move forward with the event as an annual function. As such, plans are already set to hold the 2nd International Tourism Film Festival in November 2017, at The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi Maldives. With the experience of the first festival, the organizers are confident that second in the series will be bigger and grander.

The International Film Festival “Following the Equator” was labeled as a great success in the world of cinema. The prestigious event is the first of its kind in the Maldives, it aims to gather representatives of different ages, interests and backgrounds at one place and unite them by a common love of the arts, tourism and sports.

Festival entries entailed movies about interesting and unique places all over the world.  Shedding light into the different cultures and histories of countries and their events: DSC_2833lasting from 1 to 13 minutes. Submissions across the globe involved professional, amateur and student films, programs and video-films about tourism, mountains, adventures, pilgrimage, water, ethnographic, cognitive, environmental, the unique tourist site, science, nature, and sports set in different countries.
